Past Life Astrology

Astrological Cosmology

WHERE TO LOOK ON YOUR ASTROLOGY CHART
In a past life regression (PLR) session you actually experience the details of your past life. You are there feeling your clothes, environment, and the emotions of the relationships you encounter. However, depending on how the session progress, you may need to interpret the meaning and influence that your past life has on your present life. This is a process that usually unfolds over varying amounts of time after experiencing your past life.

Analyzing your past lives based on your astrological chart (PLA) will not likely give you the specific details of your past life as a session does. But you can find the meaning and influence of past lives on your present life as well as life themes, life purpose, soul issues, what karma was left unfinished, and particularly what karma you have decided to work on in your current life.

So if you want a complete understanding of who you are and what experiences have created who you are I highly recommend both a past life regression session and a session with a past life astrologer. (Email me if you would like a referral in the San Francisco bay area.)

You can get a copy of your chart and do a lot of investigating on your own as well. Section 2 tells you what you need to know to get a chart. Section 3 tells you where you can go to get a free chart online.

This article outlines what parts of the chart to examine for karma and past life information. It does not, however, give you an interpretation of your results. For that you will need to have one or more good resource books from the list at the end of this article.

A reincarnating soul does not run through the signs of the zodiac or phases of the Moon in consecutive order. You will find that:
1. Your current Moon sign is your past Ascendant sign
2. Your current Ascendant sign is your past Sun sign
3. Your current Sun sign is your future Ascendant sign

To interpret your Life Lesson, note:
1. The South Node
2. Saturn’s Placement
3. The Life Themes

To interpret your current Life Themes from your chart, note:
1. What houses the Sun, Moon, Ascendant, and personal planets (Mercury, Venus, and Mars) are in
2. Multiple planets in a house, especially 3 or more (called a stellium)
3. Any planets that are in a conjunct aspect to the Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or the personal planets

Note that looking at the chart for past life information does not necessarily mean you are looking at issues of your most recent past life (with the exception of the 12th House). The information on your chart is most likely related to the past life whose karma you chose to work through in this life. Hence, the reason you chose the very moment to be born: when the stars and planets were perfectly aligned. We do not always work on karma in a linear fashion.

Here is a more comprehensive list of astrological correlations to past lives and karma:

SUN SIGN
The Sun sign and its house represent your personal identity and self-expression in your current life. It is the Sun and Ascendant sign that indicate the primary purpose of a given incarnation.

ASCENDING (RISING) SIGN
The Ascendant sign represents how you present yourself to the world and also rules the physical body. It is the starting point in your life. It is what your soul has chosen to do in this lifetime.

MOON SIGN
The Moon sign and its house represent your instincts and your emotional side in your current life.

MOON’S NODES (the two points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the plane of the ecliptic)
The moon’s nodes indicate your karmic purpose and what you have been through in the past.

The South Node symbolizes multiple past incarnations and represents unresolved wounds, tragedies, limitations, and failures, which could interfere with your ability to fulfill your soul contract in this lifetime. The sign of the South Node indicates who you were and what your soul contract was in the past. The house of the South Node indicates information on the physical scene of your past life. The South Node also represents your karma that you’ve acquired in previous lives.

The sign and house of the North Node symbolizes the characteristics of your current life task. The North Node represents the future and points to paths to travel for growth. The North Node is the growth path required to clear this karmic pattern.

People who push your emotional buttons often have nodal connections between your chart and theirs.

ECLIPSES
Before your birth there were two eclipses, one solar and one lunar. These prenatal eclipses have a profound influence you and the energy pattern follows you throughout your life. The Solar Eclipse sign determines what your gift to teach others is. The Lunar Eclipse sign indicates the lessons you have chosen to learn in this lifetime.

HOUSES
Your chart will have at least two vacant houses (not occupied by a planet). An unoccupied house indicates that this is an area of life that is not relevant in your current life. You may have already completed the karma of learning from that house in past lifetimes or you will deal with this house in future incarnations.

The 7th and 8th Houses are the relationship houses and can show relationship karma. The 7th House covers all aspects of relationships including lovers, marriage, business, and enemies from both the past and present. The 8th House is about how you give and share yourself with others.

The planets in the 12th House and aspects to them, the sign on the 12th House cusp, and other signs in the 12th House provide information about your karma. The 12th House is considered a karmic house, a house that shows memories and unfinished business from past lives. A karmic debt or repayment is likely if one or more planets are found in the 12th House, especially if they are the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Neptune, or Pluto. The 12th House represents your 1st House traits from your previous life, which were your personality characteristics and which may be hidden in your current life.

If the same sign is on the cusp of both the l2th and 1st houses, it may indicate what a continued existence, which means the previous life was interrupted before its purposes were fulfilled.

STELLIUM
A stellium (3 or more planets in one sign or one house) indicates areas of focus and concern in past lives. Stellia point to significant issues regarding concerns, feelings, reactions, and drives with which you have dealt before and are coming up again in your current life. A stellium also points to areas where you have had specific skills and talents in the past. These can be brought forward into your current life.

PLANETS
The inner planets are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Jupiter and Chiron are bridges to the outer planets which are Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The outer planets have a much stronger karmic influence on you. Outer planets positions (when retrograde, intercepted, or involved with water houses) correlate to groups of individuals who have chosen to reincarnate together and have similar issues.

Saturn’s position is a major key to karma. It indicates the time period in which you developed the spiritual and psychological foundations that provide the belief structure of your current life. Saturn’s position shows traits which were not developed adequately in former lifetimes or karmic debts resulting from the negative expression of that sign. If Saturn is involved in a karmic configuration, achievement is very important to you.

If Mercury is involved in a karmic configuration, communication is very important to you.

If Venus is involved in a karmic configuration, love and self-worth is very important to you.

If Mars is involved in a karmic configuration, will, power, and physical activities are very important to you.

If Jupiter is involved in a karmic configuration, social opportunity, luck, and reward are very important to you.

If Uranus is involved in a karmic configuration, aliveness is very important to you. Uranus reveals when your soul developed the spiritual understandings that will help transform what Saturn indicates you are working on now.

If Neptune is involved in a karmic configuration, emotional ecstasy and creative pursuits are very important to you. Neptune can show the age in which your present artistic, psychic, or mystical abilities were developed.

If Pluto is involved in a karmic configuration, fearlessness and empowerment are very important to you. Pluto indicates how you signed on to help humanity. Pluto retrograde shows when you created karma that you signed up to balance in this lifetime.

Chiron’s placement shows where the soul is wounded and where the soul must heal.

ASPECTS
Planets in square aspect to the South Node represent something left unresolved from prior lifetimes. The blockages in a planet square the nodal axis must be released before the soul contract can be fulfilled. (The Ascendant, Descendant, and Midheaven work the same way as planets when they are aligned with the south node.)
Saturn in square and opposite aspect to the Sun, Moon, Venus, or Mars indicate a karmic debt or repayment. Note that absence of these aspects does not necessarily mean there is no karmic debt.

MIDHEAVEN (MC, Medium Coeli)
If the MC is involved in a karmic configuration, it represents something you aspired to in prior lives but were unsuccessful at obtaining. However, the aspiration toward that goal created a karmic obligation to reach the goal in order to satisfy the desire for it.

ELEMENTS
An imbalance of elements occurs when 3 or more or no planets are in a particular element. An imbalance can indicate an over-abundance or lack of an element in past lives.
In summary look at the following areas of your chart for past life and karmic information:
1. The Moon’s South Node
2. Planets in square aspect to the South Node
3. The Solar and Lunar Eclipse (just before your birth)
4. The 12th House
5. Saturn’s Placement
6. Saturn in square or opposite aspect to the Sun, Moon, Venus, or Mars
7. Anywhere that 3 or more planets exist in one house or sign

WHAT INFORMATION IS REQUIRED TO GET YOUR ASTROLOGY CHART
The information you need for an accurate astrology chart are:

  • Date of Birth
  • Time of Birth (Standard or Daylight Time)
  • Birthplace (City, County, Country)
  • Longitude and Latitude of Birthplace (optional)

Some programs will automatically know whether you were born in standard time or daylight time. Some will also be able to automatically figure out your longitude and latitude. Once you have this information, you should keep it for future readings.

If you don’t know your birth time, your information will be mostly accurate, but it’s possible that a planet that may be in the previous or next sign. If you read the descriptions for them you will know which one applies to you.

Karma & Karmic Debt

Karma, Karmic Debt

Die Today

According to Caris Palm Turpen, there are 7 levels of karmic debt. About 80% of the karmic debt worked with in a lifetime are on the lower levels (1- 4). The higher the level of karmic debt, the longer it may take to balance, even taking as long as multiple lifetimes.

LEVEL 1: Debt is created by simple exchanges that can be balanced in the same day.
LEVEL 2: Debt is created by interruption of others’ daily flow.
LEVEL 3: Debt is created by interruption to others’ emotional attachments such as people, pets, or material items.
LEVEL 4: Debt is created by interruption to others’ personal power, attacks to others’ security or identity.
LEVEL 5: Debt is created by interruption to others’ expression of who they are, including murder, career or financial ruin.
LEVEL 6: Debt is created by interruption to others’ freedom and integrity, including libel or slander that ruins others’ reputation, jailing the innocent, political imprisonment, slavery, maiming, and war deaths.
LEVEL 7: Debt is created by interruption to others’ personal knowingness and ability to connect with the greater universe. It includes doing harm to a greater number of beings in the role of a spiritual con wo/man and suppressing supporters with falsehoods while in the role of leader.

All of the karmic levels involve exerting one’s will on another’s soul. Those so-called spiritually-driven individuals that believe it is their obligation to proselytize, convert, and coerce others into their belief systems seem to be at risk of violating the highest levels of karma.

Even though we humans are made of the same energy as the Great Spirit/Creator/Source, while incarnated we have too many human characteristics such as ego and limited vision to be passing judgments on other souls. Is it not ego that thinks we should have the power to supersede whatever journey a soul has chosen to travel in this lifetime? That journey is a contract sacred to the individual soul, his/her spirit guides, and the Creator.

I believe this hierarchy of karma is suggesting that everyone needs to look to their own personal journey instead of judging others’ journeys. But I also believe that all souls must incur karma and pay back karmic debt from all levels in order to evolve to the status of a wise soul.

INTRO TO MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage therapy is as important to maintaining a healthy body as exercise and diet. However, most of us still view massage as a luxury.

Massage is the practice of applying various techniques of pressure, tension, motion, or vibration, to muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, joints and lymphatic vessels. There are many different styles and modalities of massage. And each massage therapist has their own unique style and techniques within any given modality. Sometimes, it takes a succession of trial massages to find the therapist that is just right for you.

The AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) list of benefits to therapeutic massage are:
– Improves posture
– Reduces blood pressure
– Reduces muscle spasms
– Reduces levels of anxiety
– Reduces pain and swelling
– Helps relieve mental stress
– Enhances athletic performance
– Strengthens the immune system
– Treats musculoskeletal problems
– Promotes deeper and easier breathing
– Helps relieve stress and aids relaxation
– Satisfies needs for caring nurturing touch
– Helps relieve muscle tension and stiffness
– Promotes a relaxed state of mental alertness
– Enhances the health and nourishment of skin
– Fosters peace of mind and a feeling of well-being
– Rehabilitation for post-operatives and post-injuries
– Provides greater joint flexibility and range of motion
– Improves circulation of blood and movement of lymph fluids
– Helps relieve tension-related headaches and effects of eye-strain
– Fosters faster healing of strained muscles and sprained ligaments
– Creates body awareness and increases awareness of mind-body connection

I get massage therapy once a week. I alternate weeks between two different types: traditional massage with deep tissue work and Rosen therapy. Rosen therapy uses a combination of muscle manipulation and pressure to release emotions and stories that are held in our muscles. So it is a combination of talk and massage. During traditional massage sessions, I don’t talk at all so that I be completely in my body, fully present to each moment of touch. As a Taurus it is very important to satisfy my sensual needs and as a predominately spiritual/intellectual soul, it is important for me to fully experience my physical body.

TRIGGER POINTS
Just as we have buttons that get pushed when we are triggered by emotions from others or from specific events, our physical bodies have buttons that are called trigger points.

A trigger point is a muscle knot or a small area of muscle tissue in spasm. It is an accumulation of waste products around a nerve receptor. Spasms physically reduce blood flow to the trigger point area, reducing oxygen supplied to the tissues.

Trigger points can occur in muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joint capsule, and scar tissue. They are most common in muscles that control movement of the body from side to side especially those used to maintain posture.

When a muscle is working, its fibers act like tiny pumps to circulate blood through the capillaries. A trigger point holds the muscle contracted, stopping blood flow. The resulting lack of oxygen and accumulation of waste products irritates the trigger point. The result is muscle fatigue, nerve irritation, soreness, and pain.

There are 2 types of trigger points:

Active: Causes pain with movement and compression and refers pain and tenderness to other areas, even when not being touched.

Latent: Is tender only under the area compressed and doesn’t refer pain elsewhere.

Possible causes of trigger points include: overload, overwork, fatigue, direct trauma, chilling, skeletal asymmetry, other trigger points, arthritic joints, nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, toxicity, lack of exercise, poor posture, sleep disturbances, joint problems, sports injuries, repetitive stress, surgical scars, tension, age, and/or inflammatory conditions.

Characteristics of trigger points are:
– Edema
– Paleness
– Immobility
– Pain or tenderness
– Resistance to gliding strokes
– Increased perspiration at site
– Changes in thickness of tissue
– Muscle shortening with weakness
– Lumps felt in the muscles on palpation
– Bands, ropes, or string-like muscle fibers
– A twitch or jump response when touched
– Temperature change (area is usually colder)
– Symptoms of restricted movement, muscle stiffness and weakness, decreased range of motion, poor balance, buckling knees, and/or weak ankles

Treatments include:
– Massage
– Stretching
– Ultrasonography
– Electrostimulation
– Mechanical vibration
– Low level laser therapy
– Application of heat or cold
– Exercise for latent trigger points
– Injections (saline, anesthetics, steroids)

Massage treatment flushes the tissues and helps contracted muscle fibers release. There are 3 common massage methods are:

Trigger Point Pressure Release – Applying direct, firm pressure to the trigger point 10 seconds, released, then applied for 10 more seconds in a pumping action. This flushes the toxins and releases endorphins.

Deep Muscle Stroking – Applying slow, deep pressure along the length of the muscle. The goal is to elongate the shortened, contracted muscle fibers that house the trigger point.

Strumming – Applying pressure perpendicular to the muscle fibers that contain the trigger point. This cross-fiber action forces muscle fibers apart.

PLAINSURE
Plainsure is a term I invented to describe the bittersweet feeling of trigger point manipulation and release. It consists of 3 components:

1. Pleasure
2. Pain
3. Pressure

The initial reaction to hitting on a trigger point is pain and jumping or twitching. The muscle(s) contract to resist the incoming pressure on the sore spot. Release of the pressure brings the pleasure.

There are 3 levels of release when a trigger point is treated:

1. The Physical Level – Biochemical toxins are released from the trigger point area, relieving inflammation and irritation.

2. The Emotional Level – As described by Dr. Kirk Prine in his book, Erotic Body Prayer, memories are held in our bodies. They are called body stories. When muscles are moved, energy blocks are release, and the associated emotion or body story can be released into consciousness.

3. The Energetic Level – Any blockage in the physical body will cause a blockage in the energetic body as well. There are many meridians that our energy flows along. A trigger point will trap energy which will be released during treatment. Also the energetic body may develop an energetic block from past wounds first and then they may manifest as trigger points in the physical body.

There are 3 primary ways to treat and help prevent trigger points:

1. Get regular massages from a professional, your partner, or yourself (the areas you can reach).
2. Maintain an alkaline diet. Acidic foods create toxins in the body that can build up at trigger points faster.
3. Exercise and stretch. A professional massage therapist can help you design a stretching regimen that will keep your muscles in shape. Another form of stretching, yoga, is also excellent for keeping the body toned and limber.

Perhaps because I love receiving deep tissue body work so much, it is my preference in giving a massage as well. I love to seek out those knots and ropes with my fingers. It’s a vicarious pleasure to me as I visualize feeling what I am giving as I give it. One of my clients nicknamed me the Moan Maker. Moans, groans, and jumping are appreciated because they help me identify the location of tight spots and indicate whether the intensity of touch may be too soft or too hard. In addition, breathing deeply and making noises are an excellent form of energetic release for the client.

Sometimes clients don’t realize how resistant they are touch. Their hyper-vigilance (as a defense and survival mechanism) keeps the muscles in a contracted state of holding. Guided meditation for relaxation helps relax the muscles. As a hypnotherapist, I have done hypno-massage. The client is first hypnotized with an induction that includes going to a peaceful place in nature. Then the massage commences with muscles that are in a much more relaxed state. This makes it easier for the therapist to manipulate the muscles and it’s easier for the client to receive. At the end of the massage, post-hypnotic suggestions of peace, relaxation, and well-being are given.
