How does your gender and sexual identity define you? Find out in this guide for identity fluidity in the 21st century.

The soul, when not in human form, is a being of light and energy. It has no gender and no sexual orientation. Therefore, gender and sexual identities are constructs of incarnation created for learning purposes. The question, then, is why did each of us choose our specific gender and sexual orientation for this lifetime?

I offer fresh perspectives on gender and sexual identity, including biological, sociological, and psychological influences with an emphasis on spiritual impacts. Included are new concepts about gender fluidity and alternative sexual orientations. I have drawn on years of research and personal experience to create the broadest perspective of gender and sexual identity compiled in one volume.

Gender and sexual identity are two of the most basic but powerful aspects of our personal identity. These are the bedrocks upon which we build our self-concept and the lenses through which we view the world. Labels are not important but self-identity is critical to self-empowerment. This book illustrates how our identities are not set at fixed points but lay along ever-shifting continua. Here you will discover:

  • How gender and sexual identities are created and why.
  • How gender and sexual identities change throughout one lifetime or over multiple lifetimes.
  • Theories on why a soul chooses its gender and sexual identity when incarnating.
  • Introduction of the Energy Body.
  • The history and mythology of Two Spirit and Third Gender cultures around the world.
  • The real story of a “boy named Sue”: my life as a Four Spirit.

If you have questioned your gender and sexual identity or if you have never questioned your gender and sexual identity, this book is for you. This book is also for individuals who want a deeper understanding of gender and sexual identities, individuals who are improving their self-empowerment through identity ownership, individuals who are exploring identity fluidity, and students of gender and sexuality studies.

In Soul Sex, I offer a buffet of perspectives on gender, sexuality, and identity. You are invited to sample each of the dishes as food for thought.

Fluidity is the new identity of the 21st century.
Acceptance is the new morality.
Self-empowerment is the new mantra.

ABOUT GENDER & SEXUALITY

“Fluidity is the new identity of the 21st century.
Acceptance is the new morality.
Self-empowerment is the new mantra.”

“In Soul Sex, I am offering a buffet, from soup to nuts, of perspectives on gender, sexuality, and identity. I invite you to sample each of the dishes as food for thought.”

“Your genes determine what’s in your jeans (your biological body) but not what type of jeans you wear (your psychological identity).”

“The soul, when not incarnated, is a being of light and energy. It has no gender, no sex, and no sexual orientation. Gender and sexual identity are constructs of human incarnation. This means that the states of gender and sexual identity are created for the sole purpose of learning.”

“Gender identity is state of mind and not necessarily the physical state of the body. It drives social role and personal presentation. Sexual identity is a state of mind that drives the sexual activity of the physical body and the emotions of the heart.”

“Sexuality and gender are two of the most basic but powerful aspects of our personal identity. They are the bedrock upon which we build our self-concept and the lens through which we view the outer world.”

“A rose is a rose is a rose. But if a rose could talk, and it said it was not, would it still be a rose? This is the consciousness of identity.”

“The wonder of identity builds gender in 12 ways: psychologically, physically, professionally, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, biologically, legally, financially, aesthetically, ethically, and socially.”

“Although all individuals together make up a common tapestry, each of their lives is a unique and colorful thread. In Soul Sex we examine all of the independent threads of gender and sexuality to see how they weave together to create a beautiful textile.”

“Assuming a gender and sexual identity is not about putting on one outfit and wearing it for an entire lifetime. As outfits become outdated or outgrown, they can be discarded for new ones.”

“Gender is the prism that each one of us perceives others through in this physical world. It is the most observable quality about an individual.”

“We usually ‘read’ others’ gender from surface clues of the physical body, but an individual also has a gender energy that is not always as recognizable even though it is always present.”

“Gender and sexual identities are not caused but created. The creation of self-identity is complex, multi-dimensional, and made up of seen and unseen forces, including: biological, sociological, psychological, and spiritual factors.”

“Biology is no longer destiny due to the advances of Western medicine and surgical techniques. Now consciousness can power gender identity.”

“There are four major forces that shape the physical body: your genes, your hormones, time, and what you think of yourself.”

“21st century birth announcements should be non-gender specific and announce ‘Congratulations! It’s a human!’”

“Androgynous, intersex, and third gender individuals have been present from ancient times to modern times throughout the world. They are present in mythological and creation stories from many cultures and religions. Why then is a binary system of gender and sexual identity still the mainstream model in most cultures?”

“Non-conforming gender and sexual identities are gradually being eliminated from the books on mental disorders because these identities are natural and normal. Social awakening and subsequent law reforms are in progress to reflect the new consciousness of personal identity freedom and expression.”

“Picture your soul as a holographic globe with a continuum of sexual identity acting as longitude and a continuum of gender identity acting as latitude. Just as you can live at any longitude and latitude coordinates on Earth, you can be at any longitude and latitude of identity within the Soul. With free choice and fluidity of identity available to you at all times, you can spend an entire lifetime on one point or move from point to point throughout one lifetime.”

“Gender and sexuality are fluid and not permanently assigned at birth. It is possible for individuals to live outside of the two gender boxes of male and female. They can wake up each day and decide who they want to be at that moment in time.”

“Don’t assume that gender identity matches birth assigned sex. Modern etiquette practices should include asking an individual their preferred name and preferred pronoun.”

“We need to adapt our modern language to allow for non-gender specific pronouns that don’t keep us trapped in the old binary gender system.”

“Indigenous cultural perspectives that are based on a circular concept that all things are connected and interrelated seem to embrace the three or more gender classification systems more easily than Western cultural perspectives that are based on the linear concept that all things have a polar opposite and act independently of one another. These linear based belief systems perpetuate the binary sex system of only two legal gender statuses.”

“Because there are only two options at present, male or female, in binary gender systems, there is no place for individuals who have an identity that is both male and female or at some point between male and female. Yet the number of individuals who do not identify as either of the two legal choices is steadily on the rise.”

“Not all individuals with non-conforming gender identities are the same. Some individuals have a gender identity that is opposite of their birth assigned sex and take steps to transition the physical body to match their identity while others may have a gender identity that is somewhere between the male and female poles. These individuals make up the third gender.”

“How can people say it is unnatural to be somewhere between male and female? Picture a beautiful flower: the petals of its feminine genitalia enshroud the masculine phallus at its center.”

“Trans* individuals that live in a binary gender system are pressured to completely transit from one gender to the other. However, if there were a third gender option, how many might choose to remain at some identity between the two? How many truly embody characteristics of both male and female? Would more individuals be asking for both male and female genitalia? After all, wouldn’t that be the best of all worlds?”

“Past life experiences can have a big effect on current gender and sexual identities. In addition, a soul may change gender and sexual identity from one lifetime to another. The soul chooses specific identities to experience and learn for the purpose of growth.”

“The understanding, welcoming, and acceptance of trans* and intersex individuals as natural beings would change many lives in profound ways. Gone would be ostracism, shaming, stigmatizing, discrimination, bullying, and hate crimes perpetrated just because an individual is considered to be different.”

“I guess I am living the Reader’s Digest abridged version of fluid identity. I am a Four Spirit having lived a straight female-bodied individual; as a lesbian female-bodied individual; as a straight male-bodied individual; and as a gay male-bodied individual in one lifetime.”

“A transsexual’s emancipation proclamation is a custom made body. Surgery is one small step for a lifetime, one huge step towards freedom.”

“We should abandon classifying sexuality on the basis of an individual being attracted to someone like or opposite themselves. Individuals can identify their sexuality based on the object of their love i.e. andro-loving, gyno-loving, or pan-loving.”

“A chameleosexual is an individual whose sexual role is dependent on what the gender orientation of their partner is. In other words, an individual that is sexually versatile depending on the gender of their partner.”

“I’m not homo, hetero, bi, tri, or pan but simply sexual.”

ABOUT SELF-EMPOWERMENT

“Self-identity is self-knowledge. Self-knowledge accompanied with self-esteem creates self-empowerment.”

“If we scuttle the belief that we are victims, we realize that each of us is so powerful that we intentionally create our Earth identities for the specific purposes of learning and experience. The resulting wisdom is a gift to our soul.”

“No matter who you are or how you identify, you are exactly who you are supposed to be at this given moment in time. Your mission, if you so choose to accept it, is to recognize your self-worth, amplify your self-love, and step into your personal power.”

“Each one of us is a prize from the Universe to our Self and from our Self to the Universe. Your personal prize is as precious as diamonds, more valuable than gold, and the most beautiful rainbow ever seen.”

“Every individual has the sacred right to their identity. Identity is complex, multi-dimensional, and as unique to each individual as snowflakes are different.”

“The bottom line is that all things are possible in the world of energy. And our entire universe and all its multiple dimensions, known or unknown, consists of energy.”

“As you heal old wounds, cancel outdated vows and contracts, and create a luminous Energy Body, you are free to find the treasure you seek. It may be peace, empowerment, energy, health, creativity, prosperity, spirituality, or love. But I guarantee that by the end of your quest, you will find that you are the treasure!”

“Being compassionate doesn’t mean you need to walk a mile in my moccasins. It simply means walk a mile next to me. With respect.”

“Projections become reflections. The world is a mirror. Use it to your advantage. What belief, thoughts, words, and actions you project upon its shiny surface is none other than the very same beliefs, thoughts, words, and actions that are reflected back to you from others.”

“Like a kid in an identity shop, I am searching for the Holy Gail, that Wind of Life, on whose wings I can ride to peace.”

“Self-security is created by striking a balance of being in a power position (yang energy) and being in a peaceful place (yin energy).”

“Self-identity is self-empowerment.”

“The stronger an individual’s identity is, the more at peace they will be because owning one’s identity is empowering.”

“Self-empowerment consists of four steps: 1) Know Yourself. 2) Love Yourself. 3) Be Yourself. and 4) Share Yourself.”

“Most of us have experienced some form of trauma while growing up but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn to love ourselves, claim our power, and manifest a successful life. The possibilities all lie in the power of our perception.”

“The Golden Rule of Empowerment: Be true to yourself. And honor others for being true to themselves.”

ABOUT THE SOUL

“Our identities are created, like the perfect storm, when multiple forces converge on one physical body in one lifetime. These forces are divided into three aspects: the Physical (includes nature, hormones, DNA, and genes); the Mental/Emotional (includes nurturing, family, culture, society, and personality); and the Spiritual (includes astrology, past lives, karma, pre-life selection, and soul purpose).”

“In our current lives not only are we are working on the karma that we created in past lives but we are creating karma that will affect our future lives.”

“Our inability to accept differences in others has the power to destroy lives. Furthermore, karma being what it is, individuals that persecute others because of differences will be experiencing the other end of that persecution in a future life.”

“Duality is a construct where incarnated souls learn from experiencing polar opposites. But duality is also a spectrum with an infinite number of points between the polar opposites. We learn balance by traveling along the spectrum until we find the middle point.”

“What we see when we look in the mirror is what the world reflects back to us. We get what we believe we deserve. When we believe we are not good enough or deserve what we want, we block the flow of abundance, prosperity, and love. The more we love ourselves the more of our dreams we are able to manifest.”

“The only thing we can take with us out of this lifetime is the knowledge and wisdom that our soul acquires. So any gain we make in knowing ourselves will stay with us. These are the questions to ask in the quest for wisdom: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going? What is my purpose? What are my gifts?”

“Perhaps my soul is really homeless because it has wandered through so many lifetimes in so many different cultures, creeds, genders, sexualities, and spiritualties.”

“A predominant characteristic of older souls is that they come onto the Earth plane with a sense of knowing. My message to old souls is, don’t let others shame you away from what you know even when you feel you are in a minority of one. Go with your gut instinct because it is the truth for you.”

“I was born in the 1950s where there was only the Black and White Way. There weren’t any Ifs, Ands, Buts, or Gray Areas allowed. Unfortunately, by the age of six, I knew I was not fitting in well with the Black and White Way. The 1960s introduced, and the 21st century is reinforcing, a replacement model for the Black and White Way. It is an inclusive Shades of Gray Way.”

“Shifting our perception from static to dynamic enables us to stop thinking in black and white and start thinking in the colorful multi-shades of the spectrum. This enables two-dimensional linear models that limit the human experience to transform into three-dimensional spherical models that are inclusive.”

“There is no such thing as ‘being born in the wrong body’. A soul may incarnate with a mismatch between identity and physical body for various reasons but it is not accidental. A soul sets the parameters of their life before incarnating. Realizing this changes an individual’s perspective from victimhood to self-empowerment.”

Transpersonal Hypnotherapy

MedWheelHypnotherapy

Two levels of consciousness that exist in the mind are the everyday awakened conscious mind, which is analytical, and the subconscious mind that is mostly unknown to our conscious mind. The subconscious stores emotional complexes, long-term memory, instinct, habits, physiological control mechanisms, and the Higher Self. Hypnosis is the vehicle that allows us to communicate directly with the subconscious. With all of the functions that are stored in the subconscious, we see how important it is to be able to communicate with it.

A hypnotherapist uses various forms of induction to ease a client into a relaxed state where it is possible to communicate directly with the subconscious. The relaxed state a client is in during hypnosis is called a trance state. All of us are in this state when our minds are very focused on one thing. For example, when you are completely engrossed while watching a movie, you are in a hypnotic trance state. Shamanic journeying is a form of self-hypnosis, where the drum or rattle is used as the induction to trance.

Hypnotherapy is hypnosis used with therapeutic objectives. I use a form of hypnotherapy that involves interactive trance work, where the client is able to communicate verbally and will remember everything experienced after returning to the normal state of consciousness.

WHAT IS ALCHEMICAL & TRANSPERSONAL HYPNOTHERAPY?

The form of hypnotherapy I am trained in is called Alchemical Hypnotherapy. It was developed by David Quigley. Alchemical Hypnotherapy differs from other forms of hypnotherapy in two basic ways:

  1. Its purpose is to discover the root cause of trauma, addictions, phobias, or disease.
  2. It can transform these root causes through emotional release, creation of inner guides, and the rescripting of past memories.

Alchemical Hypnotherapy is a synthesis of techniques from many modern schools of transpersonal hypnotherapy and psychology including Gestalt, Regression Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Psychosynthesis, shamanism, and alchemy (as channeled to the modern world by Carl Jung).

The goals of a typical Alchemical Hypnotherapy session are to:

  • Locate the memory and imagery behind an issue and release the emotion associated with that imagery.
  • Restructure the imagery.
  • Access or create an internal resource which is then anchored to the outer world through post hypnotic suggestion.

The form of hypnotherapy that I specialize in is transpersonal hypnotherapy. Transpersonal means going beyond personal consciousness to encompass the experience of the collective consciousness and altered states of consciousness to achieve a broadened holistic perspective.

Transpersonal hypnotherapy is a blend of hypnotherapy, transpersonal psychology, and spirituality. Various states of consciousness are tapped to explore issues such as: how past lives affect the present life; self-sub-personality dialog and identification; self-awareness and self-empowerment; and guided meditation for relaxation. I use my skills as a trained shamanic energy medicine practitioner to help the client open new pathways of understanding about the Self, the Soul, and the Life Purpose or Mission.

HOW ARE MEMORIES REFRAMED?

Alchemical hypnotherapy allows the client to identify the core cause/memory in the subconscious and work to reframe it to how s/he wants it to be. The client does not forget the original memory but there is now an alternative memory stored in the brain to counteract the negative one.

A metaphor to illustrate this process is the following: A Traumatic Event occurs in a current life or a past life. The subconscious, the place where long term memory is stored, stores the memory of this Traumatic Event as a train track. Each time a subsequent event triggers this memory, a train carrying thoughts and emotions, travels down the same track. Each time the track is traveled it becomes more deeply embedded in the mind. Beliefs are then created from this memory track. If this happens then that happens.

Train1

Through hypnotherapy, a switch can be installed on the original track. A new track is built by creating a new memory that has a positive outcome to the Traumatic Event. (Often called rescripting or reframing.) The thoughts and emotions associated with the new track foster self-love, self-esteem, and self-empowerment. The old track always remains but the train now travels down the new track. Beliefs cannot be reframed to if this happens, then that where “that” is a much more positive outcome.

Train2

In addition to building the new track, the hypnotherapist will assist the conductor of the train to find an assistant who is capable of nurturing, mentoring, or supporting him/her.

WHAT TECHNIQUES ARE USED IN ALCHEMICAL HYPNOTHERAPY?

The first area of focus is Emotional Clearing. A support system consisting of an inner family, inner mate, and other guides (archetypes) create a foundation of nurturance and/or mentoring for the Inner Child and the Adult Self. Facilitation of communication between sub-personalities (different voices within ourselves) is done to resolve conflicting desires and goals. (This is called Parts Therapy.)

An Etheric Plane Communication is a way to communicate with others (either incarnated or those who have passed) without the need for face-to-face confrontation. The Etheric Plane is the energetic space where all beings are connected through emotion and subconscious images.

The second area of focus is Past Life Regression. Past life memories can be accessed to enhance creative abilities, resolve trauma, change karma, alter contracts with significant others, and examine our life purpose within the pre-conception contract.

The third area of focus is Addictions and Phobias. Sheer will power alone is not strong enough to control addictions and overcome phobias. Hypnotherapy does not treat addictions and phobias however it does identify the core cause of the addiction or phobia. Discovering the core cause can then be altered as shown in the example of the train track above.

The fourth area of focus is Somatic Healing. Somatic Healing was developed by Nick Ardagh. It is the use of hypnotherapy for injury, pain, and disease. Somatic Healing includes all of these processes:

1. Hypnotic Movement – the body moves in its own unique way to unwind physical traumas. This body movement is done without conscious control and releases old traumas which have become energetic blocks that are stored in the body.

2. Energy Healing – while hypnotized the client discovers the colors of a pain in the body and moves that color out of the body through exit points. A new healing color is then channeled into the injured or diseased area.

3. Spiritual Surgery – during hypnosis the client discovers a powerful inner healer who can perform spiritual surgery on the body to remove tumors, repair bones, muscles and internal organs.

HOW DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK WITH SHAMANIC ENERGY MEDICINE?

In my practice I am combining shamanic energy medicine with hypnotherapy in order to provide a whole-istic approach to life management. The combination of shamanism, which focuses on spiritual healing, with hypnotherapy, which focuses on body, mind, and emotional healing creates a modality that addresses all aspects of the human soul.

Shamanic energy medicine adds energy body healing, spiritual clearing, entity and energetic extraction, soul retrieval, and soul flight to the list of healing techniques described above to create an incredibly comprehensive list of healing solutions for your body and soul.

Note: This whole-istic healing approach is not meant to replace Western medicine, but to enhance what Western medicine can do for us.

WHY MAKE A HYPNOTHERAPY APPOINTMENT?

The benefits of Alchemical Hypnotherapy can include:

  • Resolving behavioral and emotional issues
  • Healing childhood abuse and molestation
  • Healing addictive/co-dependent behaviors
  • Healing the underlying causes of physical illness (in conjunction with medical treatment)
  • Stress or weight management
  • Integrating your conflicting inner voices
  • Enriching relationships
  • Help with decision-making and development of motivation and career success
  • Opening to creativity and intuition
  • Contacting your inner guidance
  • Enhancing creative potential and achieving peak performance
  • Finding meaning in past life experiences
  • Discovering your life purpose
  • Experiencing spiritual awareness

If you feel you have been doing your affirmations but are yet unsuccessful with manifesting what you want in life, there is a core cause that is preventing you from doing it. That cause must be discovered and cleared. The core cause could be from:

  • A contract made in a past life
  • A pre-birth contract to clear some karma
  • An unconscious desire for self-sabotage due to feelings of unworthiness

The latter is always associated with a Traumatic Event that happened earlier in life or in a past life. Hypnotherapy can assist you in not only finding the core cause but help you to change and facilitate a shift in the energetic path you are currently traveling.

NLP: Neuro-Linguistic Programming

NLP

MedWheelNLP

NLP stands for Neuro-linguistic programming. Neuro is the brain and neural network that our bodies send, store, and receive signals. Linguistics is the verbal and non-verbal content that moves through the neurological system. Programming is the way in which we use the content running through the neurological system. The brain directs, sequences, and changes signals based on prior stored experiences and our beliefs. In short, NLP is the study of the mechanics of the mind.

NLP is also a “study of excellence” based on the language, behavior, strategies, beliefs, and patterns of successful people. The logic is that if an individual can duplicate the model of a successful person, then they, too, will be successful.

The basic premise of NLP is that once we understand our own perception of reality, called a “map”, we can change our perceptions in order to achieve what we are wishing for. Our perceptions are self-fulfilling prophecy.

NLP was developed in the early 1970s by Richard Bandler, a mathematician, and John Grinder, a linguist, at the University of California at Santa Cruz. NLP incorporates ideas and models from various roots. The three major ones are:

  • Milton Erickson – Hypnotherapy
  • Friz Perls – Gestalt Therapy
  • Virginia Satir – Family Therapy

In addition, other ideas originated from the work of:

  • Noam Chomsky – Transformational Grammar
  • Gregory Bateson – Logical levels
  • Moshe Feldenkrais – Body Work
  • Eugene Galanter, George Miller, and Karl Pribram – Systems Theory
  • Alfred Korzybski – General Semantics
  • Ivan Pavlov – Stimulus-trigger-response Conditioning

WHAT TECHNIQUES ARE USED IN NLP?

Not only is NLP the study of linguistics and models but it also has a language of its own that must be learnt by a new practitioner.

The practice of NLP consists of specific techniques called technologies. Included in the list of techniques are: Anchoring; Congruence; Ecology; Eye Cues; Mapping; Modeling; Neuro-logical Levels; Pacing & Leading; Perceptual Positions; Rapport; Reframing; Representational Systems; Sensory Acuity & Calibration; States & Emotions; Strategies & Goals; Submodalities; Values & Beliefs; and Well-formed Outcomes.

BODY LANGUAGE

Body language is read through various ways such as an individual’s use of representational systems, submodalities, and eye cues.

REPRESENTATIONAL SYSTEMS

Our representational systems are how we use our senses to perceive. In addition, how we store and remember information is connected to the senses. Some believe individuals have preferred representational system (PRS) and process information primarily in one sensory modality. Others believe that we use all of the representational systems to one degree or another. And yet others believe that when an individual is under stress, one representational system will more dominate than the others. The representational systems are:

  • Visual (images)
  • Auditory (sounds)
  • Kinesthetic (touch and internal feelings)
  • Gustatory (tastes)
  • Olfactory (smells)
  • Digital (thought including internal dialog)

An individual’s use of representational systems can be observed by tracking their breathing, eye movements, gestures, posture changes, skin color, tone of voice, and use of sensory predicates.

SUBMODALITIES

The qualitative and quantitative details of representational systems are called submodalities. Submodalities include characteristics such as aspect, brightness, color, clarity, contrast, density, direction, distance, intensity, fragrance, frequency, location, movement, orientation, perspective, pitch, pressure, rhythm, shape, size, symmetry, taste, temperature, texture, tone, transparency, volume, and weight.

Analyzing and clarifying the submodalities helps us to consciously understand how something is linked to the senses, what emotion it may illicit, and how it is held in the mind. NLP techniques that change submodalities can alter responses to specific stimuli.

EYE CUES

Eye flickers in specific directions can often indicate internal mental processing. The common NLP model for eye accessing cues is:

  • Upwards to the left – Visually remembered (Vr)
  • Upwards to the right – Visually constructed (Vc)
  • Level toward the left ear – Auditorily remembered (A)
  • Level toward the right ear – Auditorily constructed (A)
  • Down to the right — Kinesthetic (K)
  • Down to the left – Internal Dialogue

Note: This is one of several different models of Eye Cues. In addition, all individuals are unique and many individuals may not fit this model. The best way to test, is to observe the client and calibrate their personal system.

VERBAL LANGUAGE

There are two models that focus directly on verbal language: the Meta and the Milton.

META MODEL

It is common for individual’s to distort, generalize, or delete important information in everyday communication. The Meta Model helps the NLP practitioner gather information from the client by asking questions designed to clarify an individual’s meaning in what they are communicating. In other words, it drills down to the finite essence of meaning. The Meta Model helps uncover the missing information by asking questions in the following forms: according to whom, compared to what or whom, how, how do you know, how does X cause Y, what, what would happen if, where, when, which, and who. Note that “why” is not one of the questions that is asked as it usually puts an individual on the defensive.

MILTON MODEL

The Milton Model is the opposite of the Meta Model. It is purposely vague and metaphoric language. This form of language allows the client to fill in their own meaning for what is being heard. The Milton Model is derived from Milton Erickson, a skilled hypnotherapist, who used vague and ambiguous language to induce trance. It works by distracting the conscious mind while the subconscious can be accessed. The Milton Model uses ambiguity, double binds, embedded suggestion, metaphor, multiple-meaning sentences, and pacing and leading.

CHANGE ACTIVITIES

There are hundreds of different NLP techniques that have are presented in books. In this section I will cover a few of the major ones.

WORKING ON DIFFERENT NEURO-LOGICAL LEVELS

Working a technique through six neuro-logical levels facilitates belief change. The six levels are:

1. Environment – The context and how it affects behavior.
2. Behavior – Actions, habits, and patterns of behavior.
3. Capability – Skills and knowledge resources for behavior.
4. Beliefs & Values – Higher resources that motivate and drive behavior.
5. Identity – Sense of self.
6. Spirit or Strategic Vision – Higher purpose and values that create identity.

MAPPING ACROSS

Mapping across is the process of transferring elements of one state or situation to another. It involves employing successful strategies, beliefs, behaviors, and processes to bring about successful performance.

One example of this is called “the Circle of Excellence”. The client thinks of a situation where their current behavior is not working for them. The NLP practitioner asks the client to identify resources that would support a new behavior. The client remembers a situation where they felt the strong use of these resources or they visualize a person they know who has these resources. With this feeling present, the client steps into a circle visualized on the floor and there they experience this positive resource state. The resources are tested in a future pace scenario (see below). So the positive resources are now “mapped across” into present and future situations that will generate a new behavior.

REFRAMING

A frame can refer to a limiting belief. The basic concept of a reframe is that if we change how we perceive an event, our response and our behavior will also change. Reframing can occur in one of three ways:

1. Context Reframe – The content remains the same but the context in which it exists changes. The meaning of the behavior remains the same but can be seen to be positive in a different context.

2. Content Reframe – The context remains the same but the content within it changes. Content is usually about changing an old behavior to a new behavior.

3. Double Reframe – Both the content and the context is changed.

ANCHORING

An anchor is a process by which a particular state or response is accentuated or reinforced through the use of a unique sensory stimulus. Common anchors are gestures, voice tone, or touch. In my practice, I also use ritual to anchor change.

ECOLOGY & FUTURE PACING

Ecology is the practice of checking a client’s desired outcome against the consequences. One technique of ecology is called future pacing. After a change activity of behavior has been completed, the client is asked to visualize a related scenario happening in the future. If the client is still feeling positive then it is believed that when the client finds themselves in a similar future situation, the new behavior will occur.

PERCEPTUAL POSITIONS

There are four perceptual positions from which an NLP practitioner can observe. The ability to shift through all four positions greatly enhances an individual’s ability to establish rapport and facilitate effective communication skills.

1st Position Perceiving from within one’s self, seeing through one’s own eyes, hearing through one’s own ears, and feeling one’s own body.

2nd Position Perceiving and experiencing from another individual’s point of view. See, hear, feel, taste and smell another’s reality.

3rd Position Witnessing from an external perspective, standing back and perceiving the relationship between one’s self and another individual.

4th Position The gestalt experience of being in the other three positions simultaneously. Feeling connected, at one, with all individuals involved.

PerceptualPositions

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN NLP SESSION?

The flow of a typical NLP session is:

1. The NLP practitioner checks state of the client.

2. The NLP practitioner establishes rapport with the client.

3. The NLP practitioner gathers information by analyzing the client’s verbal and body language while describing an issue. From this, the NLP practitioner can determine problems in a client’s perception and identify a root cause.

4. The NLP practitioner assists the client determine a desired outcome.

5. The NLP practitioner utilizes the resources they have in order to bring about a shift in the client’s preconceptions.

6. The NLP practitioner tests to see if the changes have taken effect with the client.

7. The NLP practitioner future paces with the client by mentally rehearsing and integrating the changes into their life.

One additional step is taken in transpersonal NLP:

8. The NLP practitioner helps the client integrate the shift in perception by calling in the client’s Higher Self to agree, support, and sustain the new perception.

WHY MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME?

NLP techniques work well with changing beliefs, depression, habit disorders, learning disorders, phobias, psychosomatic illnesses, and post-traumatic stress syndromes. NLP techniques also work well in the business world, specifically in sales and management.

In my sessions I include techniques from NLP as well as other modalities such as EFT (tapping), energy medicine, hypnotherapy, and shamanism.

The Grand Mirror
I will tell you the key to success, happiness, and fulfillment. It’s so basic that it’s unbelievable. It has a 100% success rate if followed. And I am telling you this for free. Here it is:

What you put out, you get back. How you think of yourself, is how the world will treat you.

It’s that simple. The world is a huge mirror and returns to you exactly what you think you deserve. Another way to put it is, as you do your personal work, you raise your vibration. The higher the level you vibrate at, the higher the level of vibrations you will attract. The foundation of doing your personal work is changing your perspective. About everything.

The 4 steps to manifesting anything you want:
1. Know Yourself Learn all you can about yourself. Travel your subconscious for hidden memories. Heal past pain & trauma.
2. Love Yourself Unconditionally. Constantly. Know you deserve the best.
3. Be Yourself Serve yourself. Honor your boundaries. Be authentic by extracting others’ voices & influences.
4. Share Yourself Be of service to others. Share your gifts with the universe. Shine your light.

5 “W” and 1 “H” questions to ask on your journey of self-discovery:
1. Who am I?
2. Why am I here now?
3. Where am I going?
4. When do I step fully into my self-power?
5. What is my gift?
6. How much self-sourcing and support do I need for this journey?

There are many roads to self-empowerment. Some suggestions are:
1. Develop your personal skills (intuition, meditation, contemplation, etc.)
2. Do your personal work (classes, bodywork, therapies, past life sessions, etc.)
3. Do your homework (reading, researching, study, astrological analysis, etc.)
4. Maintain a daily spiritual practice (ritual, ceremony, prayer, acts of spiritual service, gratitude, etc.)

Treasure Trove
Seeking your fortune ends in finding yourself. Knowing and loving yourself is the greatest gift you will ever find. Because you are the treasure at the end of the rainbow. Each one of us is a treasure trove of talent, love, and light.

“In the hall of mirrors, you are everywhere. Which is the real you? Find your original Self, the one who perceives all the reflections and is amused by them. Then you will recognize your path and walk it.” –Alberto Villoldo

Formulas for Self-Empowerment

Self-Empowerment, Self-Identity

Formulas for Self-Empowerment

Much of my work and most of my book is about self-empowerment through self-identification so I developed 4 magic formulas to support this concept.

Empowerment is granting power to an individual or group. Self-empowerment is the process of discovering and claiming our personal power.

Energy is neither positive nor negative. It is the intent of its use that creates its purpose. Power is the same. It is neither positive nor negative. When it is used with ego and lack of integrity, it becomes abusive. When it is used with love and compassion, it is a force that creates and manifests energy that enlightens not only ourselves but others as well.

Self-empowerment may seem egocentric to some, but it is not. It is using our hearts to realize our gifts so that we can share them with the world. As we raise our personal vibration to the level of love, we also contribute to raising the collective vibration on Earth.

The 1st formula is:
SE = SK + SE Self Empowerment = Self Knowledge + Self Esteem

Self-empowerment has 2 inseparable components: Knowing who we are and owning who we are.

The 2nd formula is:
Self-Empowerment = Know Yourself + Love Yourself + Be Yourself + Share Yourself

Just as there are 4 directions and 4 elements, there are 4 steps to self-empowerment. In order to fully share our unique gifts with the world, we need to know and love who we are then stand firm being ourselves. Doing so, allows us to be fully present and not only able to withstand diversity but to thrive in our love and connectedness to others.

The 3rd formula is:
SS = PP + PP Self Security = Power Position (yang) + Peaceful Place (yin)

We can remain in a safe and secure position, even in adverse situations, by calling on our center of power and remembering our peaceful place, that favorite place in Nature we go to in order to reflect, relax, and rejuvenate. In addition, having a power position and peaceful place balances the yang (masculine) and yin (feminine) within us.

And the 4th formula is:
P.I.E. Peace = Identity + Empowerment
The Law of the Peaceful Warrior is that we are at peace when we know who we are and we are self-empowered. We need not go to war in a dramatic situation because our self-concept is strong enough to counter any social attack. We are so strong in our self-belief system, that our buttons don’t get pushed and our cages don’t get rattled. This is the peaceful place of non-attachment. To be fully “wholistic” individuals, we need all the pieces of our P.I.E. in place.

So, the first step to self-empowerment is self-knowledge. How do we know who we are? Here are 5 “W” and 1 “H” questions that will aid you in your journey to self-discovery:
1. Who am I?
2. Why am I here now?
3. Where am I going?
4. When do I step fully into my self-power?
5. What is my gift?
6. How much self-sourcing and support do I need for this journey?

There are many roads to self-empowerment. Here are some suggestions:
1. Develop your personal skills (intuition, meditation, contemplation, etc.)
2. Do your personal work (classes, bodywork, therapies, past life sessions, etc.)
3. Do your homework (reading, researching, study, astrological analysis, etc.)
4. Maintain a daily spiritual practice (ritual, ceremony, prayer, acts of spiritual service, etc.)

The most powerful transformation work I have completed is taking a class based on the 4 directions of the medicine wheel. Attending mystery schools also provides a good foundation for self-empowerment. Now I teach a medicine wheel mystery school, called Soul School for others to develop their self-empowerment and self-identity.

Soul Makeover

Soul Makeover

Are you feeling the need for a soul make-over? In my soul sessions I use a combination of techniques from hypnotherapy, transpersonal psychology, shamanism, energy medicine, and metaphysics. A super-sized soul session is a series of sessions that provide you with an comprehensive health plan for your soul. Super-sized soul sessions can be done over an extended period of time or they can be done as an intensive personal retreat.

What is the benefit of having a soul make-over? The energy body, which overlays the physical body, is the home of the soul. It carries imprints from current and past lives. It also may have blocked energy from many different causes. If the energy can be freed or healed before these imprints descend to the physical body, then dis-ease and accidents can be avoided. In addition, having a healthy energy body will make you feel good; good enough to be the creative and self-empowered person you want to be. Now it is more important than ever before to create and maintain a healthy energy body because as we ascend from 3rd dimension to 4th, the physical body will fade away and the only vehicle for our soul will be the energy body. There are specific rituals that can be done now to facilitate your ascension journey. For example, activating your DNA. Working on clearing, healing, and enlightening the energy body creates a state of luminosity called the luminous body, the light body, or the rainbow body. This new luminous body has a higher energetic vibration. This higher vibration attracts positive energy into your life, including prosperity, health, and new loving relationships.

The specific agenda for super-sized soul sessions depends on your unique needs. In general, it can include:

  • Conference Room Work
  • Peaceful Place Guided Meditation
  • Grounding & Protection Guided Meditation
  • Illumination (core cause identification & clearing)
  • DNA Activation
  • Childhood and Pre-birth Regression
  • Entity Extraction

Onion Layers, Self-Growth

Onion

Keep peeling away the layers of your story and at the very heart you will finally expose a pearl, your Magnificent Self. And like peeling an onion, the process might cause you to cry but these tears of cleansing will turn to tears of joy when you hit the core.

“Like layers on an onion, we encompass many layers of being, with each layer connected to the other and ultimately to the universe. Our physical, mental, and emotional well-being is a layer where our spiritual self connects. Energetically, the simplest way to picture the human body is as a being with 3 layers or levels: the physical layer of the body, the astral layer which surrounds the body, and the causal layer outside the astral body that connects directly to the larger energy field around us.” -Catriona MacGregor, Partnering with Nature

What is The Truth?

Truth

Truth

I began keeping a journal when I was 16 years old. I still have them and periodically go back and look at them. I am always struck at how many times I wrote about finding the Truth, as if there was some great illusive mystery being kept from me and it was my personal quest to uncover this secret Truth. Now, in my later years I have come to realize that it is personal perspective that makes something true and each person has his/her own unique perspective.

There are over 38,000 denominations of Christianity and at least 10,000 other religious faiths in the world. Each one of them believes their interpretation of the Universe is the Truth. But there is not only One Truth. There are as many Truths as there are people on the planet. The Truth is not what someone interprets for you. It is what you find in your own Soul. So find your Truth and then honor it. For honoring your Truth is what integrity is built on.

But also be respectful of other people’s Truths, even if they seem so far away from yours. Their path is their own and yours is not the same.

10 people can watch an event and there will be 10 different versions of what happened because each person has a unique perspective that comes from past experiences, present emotions, and basic beliefs. There won’t be only one correct person of the 10, they will all be correct. Why? Because each of us sees what we are meant to see for our own growth. It is as if each one of us has a personal movie screen on which the world plays out its scenes specifically for each one of us.

Even though Truth is different for everyone because it’s dependent on how each of us perceives, it’s our integrity that impacts how we perceive Truth.

“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not a truth.” –Marcus Aurelius

“The search for truth is more precious than its possession.” -Albert Einstein

“Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.” –Gandhi

“The process of learning anew is more the process of unlearning that which is not true.” –Paul V. Johnson

“The truth of a thing is the feel of it, not the think of it.” –Stanley Kubrick

“We cannot know the truth by what seems to be true from a single point of view.” -Christian Larson

“Truth only reveals itself when one gives up all preconceived ideas.” -Shoseki

“There is no truth. Only points of view.” –Dame Edith Stilwell

“Truth is not determined by majority vote.” -Doug Gwyn

“Losing an illusion makes you wiser than finding the truth.” -Ludwig Borne

“Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it.” -Maimonides

Heart Wheel

From a state of No Love, we wander onto the Heart Wheel experiencing different states of love, with the ultimate goal being to spiral in to the center, which is the highest state of love, that of Unconditional Loving Kindness.

I divided love into 4 states:

  1. Loveless – The absence of love
  2. Romantic – Sexual love for lovers, significant others, and spouses.
  3. Platonic – Non-sexual love for friends and family.
  4. Spiritual – Altruistic, unconditional love, loving kindness, and being in service.

The states of love can overlap. For example, it is possible for someone to have romantic, platonic, and spiritual love towards a significant other. In fact, I believe that experiencing the first three states of love with another person would be the ultimate in a relationship.
